THE CLOCK
Duration: 6 weeks
Role: Visual, Installation, Interaction Design
Tools: Arduino, Maya, Elastic fabric, Wood, Foam
The first thing we do when we get up every morning is to look at the time. And at the end of the day, we check the time and see if it’s time to go to sleep. From then on, week after week. Each of us is trapped in a unit, and it is time. But what is time? Years, months, days, hours, minutes, seconds? And who defines time?
The Clock is an interactive installation project about the truth of time. The installation consists of 265 squares of different sizes that form a human sculpture. The shape of the sculpture is based on Leonardo da Vinci’s famous work “Uomo vitruviano”. This painting is a famous study of the structure of the human body, and by drawing on this shape, the intention is to study the truth of time through the research of the human body. Among the squares that make up the installation, seven squares can be interacted with by the viewer. Each cube is located in a different vital organ of the human body, such as the brain, heart, epidermis, etc. Each organ has its own metabolic life cycle. The cycle of process is the true time of the human being itself. In the installation, this metabolic cycle is visualized as the frequency of flashing led lights, thus conveying that the life of a human being is the number of cycles of cellular movement, allowing the viewer to understand time, and even the nature of a human being, from a different perspective.
